Try out our facilities for a day, you never know you might like it.
LIFE is such a friendly place to work out, relax and meet new people
• I'm not fit. Will I stand-out like a 'sore thumb?'
90% of our members have neither been to a health club or exercised for quite some considerable time therefore many of our members feel the same. With the guidance of your instructor your confidence will increase with every visit. Within 6 visits you will feel like you are 'part of the furniture'.
• What type of sporting clothing should I wear?
Anything loose-fitting and comfortable plus a pair of rubber-soled footwear.
• How soon will I experience positive results?
Within the first week of your programme you will feel more energetic. Circulation, breathing, co-ordination & flexibility will increase. Provided you are visiting LIFE on a regular basis you will experience physical changes to your body, after your initial month of exercise. Additional long-term benefits will result in improved Heart & Lung efficiency. Relieve stress and nervous tension. Feel more confident in your ability to wear current fashion clothing.
• How many times per week should I visit LIFE?
If it was a perfect world we would like to see you 5 times per week. Unfortunately, with time restrictions we don't live in a perfect world therefore if you could complete 3 visits per week you will achieve fantastic results.
• I'm looking for a personal trainer but I'm not sure what to look for.
Well ... personal trainers come in many different disguises. The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs), which monitors fitness professionals within the UK, has failed to clearly define the educational background a practicing personal trainer must have. Thus, some people holding minimum fitness qualifications could, in theory, practice as a trainer. However, there are some ESSENTIAL certificates a personal trainer MUST have:
o An advanced fitness award - accredited by Premier Fitness, YMCA, Future Fit, Northern Fitness, FitPro etc.
o Public liability insurance.
o A fully dated first aid and CPR certificate
• What types of food should I eat?
It depends on your personal needs however the following is a basic guideline:-
o Always eat breakfast.
o Consume 4 or 5 small meals per day rather than 2 or 3 large ones.
o Included in your diet should be at least 5 or 6 servings of fruit, veg, or grains.
o Restrict your intake of caffeine and consume at least 5 glasses of water.
Good question. Food isn't really the issue, it's the extra booze. Health experts recommend that we drink no more than approximately 4 units per day for men and 2 units per day for women. However, the amount of calories connected to those units won't help with weight management.
• Foods to avoid
• We're always reluctant to suggest people avoids foods because eaten in moderation and within a balanced diet most foods are fine for our waist lines. That said, over Christmas people tend to eat more snack foods then usual - nuts, crisps, chocolates, sweets etc. So if anything don't over indulge in these foods if you can help it. Oh and remember, Christmas is only one day, but overindulgence will mean you carry the excess weight around for weeks.
