If you're a regular at your gym or fitness centre, you need a challenge to keep you motivated and to give you a focus during each training session.
Over 12 visits, try and cover 34,000 metres on the rowing machine. This is equivalent to rowing acorss the English Channel and will take your fitness up to the next level, as well as helping you to tone and lose weight.
You have to push yourself in the gym. Too many people are just going through the motions. You have to get your heart rate up get yourself a bit out of breath. If you can’t. come and see me and I’ll see what I can do.
One for the women! for women. To work your thighs and glutes do exercises such as lunges, squat and step ups - and avoid the AB and AD machines, they'll do nothing for you. These exercise are harder but if you persist they will work.
I can’t seem to get down to the gym? My mind is willing but my body just seems to say ‘no’. Does this sound like you?
If it does, check out advice on our website from our fitness instructor Sue to help you get back into the fitness fold.
If this scenario applies to you then perhaps it is time to take break. It is actually OK to take some time off if you need to.
Alternatively, you could try doing something for fun instead. Try a 5k charity walk or go for a relaxing hike around the Gower, it’s great at the moment in the Spring sunshine.
Maybe you just need to regroup and reassess. Try getting a work out partner or trainer if you feel you have to have someone to kick you up the backside and get you motivated
I was talking to one of our members the other day who had been made unemployed for the 4th time. What he said was, ‘at least I have my health’. He was totally miserable and unmotivated, but he was right..his workouts were the only constant in his life and gradually got back into it.
Just remember - your heart and your body are trying to tell you something, and if you stop and listen, you can't go wrong. If you don’t use it, you could lose it!
If you get your frame of mind right for exercise then your body will follow. You need to believe in yourself as you can do anything if you set your mind to it. Before exercising or planning a new regime, you should always think back to how you feel after exercising. This feeling release endorphins into your body which in turn will increase your strength, speed and stamina.
